Flight time Calculation

For detailed information of offered calculation methods, see Flight Time Calculation Methods

Trip and quote Estimations

There are currently two (2) different flight time calculation methods in Avianis: Great Circle and SkyPlan.
Chose independently for Domestic and International (defined in on the Aircraft Profile Tab, Countries Considered Domestic) for Trips and Quotes

Manipulate settings for each of these choices by selecting the Settings Button:

  1. Enter the appropriate Default Cruise Altitude and Default Cruise Speed.  If the Aircraft page was created using a Standard Type Profile, the Cruising Speed and Cruising Altitude will auto-populate with average values for the standard of that make/model. If a flight time configuration is not set for the aircraft (see calculating with flight planning and configuration basics), then flight time calculations will be made using these values and the distance as calculated by Great Circle Mapper.
  2. When Use Winds is selected, winds will be factored into estimated flight time for a Quote/Trip. When a Quote/Trip for the aircraft is more than 24 hours out from the time the Trip is created, the calculation will use historical winds. When a Quote/Trip for the aircraft is less than 24 hours out from the time the Trip is created, the calculation will use real-time data from WSI.
  3. Remove or add chart rows as needed to enhance the flight times using the Add New Button or the x to delete.

Estimation Additions

  1. Est. Flight Time Rounding:

When Default is selected, the aircraft with use the rounding settings as provided in Operations > Settings > Configuration. When Custom is selected, a drop down option is displayed for Do Not Round, Round to 10th and Round to 5 min. These settings will override the overall Configuration.

  1. Taxi Time:

When Default is selected, the aircraft with use the settings as provided in Operations > Settings > Configuration. If Custom Taxi Time is selected, it will automatically use the value entered in tenths. If there is a time entered here on the Aircraft Profile, it will override the value in Configuration. To enter a custom amount, use decimal notation (e.g. "0.2" for 12 min). If no taxi time is to be added for an aircraft, input the value of "0.00". Taxi time on a Configuration level and the Aircraft level may both be overridden with a taxi time value entered within a trip on the leg level.

  1. Default Turn Time

To enter a custom amount, use the decimal notation (e.g. "0.75" for 45 min). When creating a Trip with multiple legs, this will be the default span of time between the arrival time of one leg and the departure time of the next leg. If no turn time is needed enter 0.0 (use case helicopters).

Fuel Information

If the Aircraft page was created using a Standard Type Profile, the Fuel Stop Threshold will auto-populate with an average value for the standard of that make/model. An alert will appear in the Trip Feasibility if they are exceeded in a Trip flown by the aircraft. The Fuel Density Unit may be set for the aircraft records.

Operating Limits

If the Min Runway Length, Min Runway Width, and Max Airport Elevation values are not satisfied by an airport selected for a Trip with the aircraft there will be an alert in the Trip Feasibility.

Operating Weights

The Basic Operating Weight, Max Takeoff Weight, and Max Landing Weight will auto-populate with standard values for the make/model aircraft if the aircraft page was created using a Standard Type Profile. The Max Ramp Weight, Max Zero Fuel Weight, and Max Fuel Capacity will need to be manually entered.
