Map Overlays

The flight following subscription is not required in order to benefit from the Map Overlay options. The weather overlays are provided by DTN

Layers may be turned on/off by clicking the layer icon and setting hide/show. Once hide/show are set, the settings are saved until changed again. The weather layers are updated continuously.

Radar

Real-time doppler radar displays globally.

Satellite

Real-time satellite displays globally. 

Weather Fronts

Display cold, warm, stationary and occluded fronts. 

US Convective Sigmets

Display convection over the Continental U.S.

Airmets

Display Icing, Turbulence and IFR Airmets using three different toggles.

Global Sigmets

Display convective and non-convective global sigmets.

METAR/TAF

Display METARs and TAFs. Click the dot to view the details.

See below for the list of flight categories colors:

  • Green: VFR (Visual Flight Rules)

  • Red: IFR (Instrument Flight Rules)

  • Magenta: LIFR (Low Instrument Flight Rules)

  • Yellow: MVFR (Marginal Visual Flight Rules)

TFRs (Temporary Flight Restrictions) 

There are four TFR flag colors on the map, Red, Green, Blue and Orange. Red is Nuclear, Green refer to Stadium TFRs, Blue are Presidential and Orange are Fire. 

Tropical Storm

Easily view active tropical storms that exist in the national waters. 

Volcano

View active volcano activity throughout the globe. 

Volcano Ash

View the Volcano Ash details of the active volcano activity. 

Color Coding of Volcano

The volcano symbol can display in 4 different colors, Green, Yellow, Orange or Red. In this example, the color is Orange and there is an Ash symbol as well. Click on the triangle to learn the details of the active volcano.
