Reporting with the Data Analysis Tool

Reporting with the Data Analysis Tool

In the Data Analysis guide we will cover the areas in which a data analysis grid can be run from, explain what affects each function has on the data and provide a few examples of common uses.

Access a Data Analysis

There are many analysis grid reports throughout the different sections, i.e. Operations, Sales, Crew Records, Maintenance and Finance. The analysis grid reporting model allows the user to adjust the data that is pulled and specifically work to display exactly what they need through the various functions, i.e. Group, Filter, Sort, Aggregate, etc. Once the data has been captured, it can be extracted into a pdf, csv or excel file format. In this example, we will guide you how to access trip related data. Follow these steps:

Steps

  1. Go to Reports on the left in the Main Navigation and select operations.

   2. Access the Flight Data Analysis Grid from the upper-right hand corner of the reporting screen
   3. Select a month, quarter or a custom date range and click "Launch Report"

The table shown contains all the trip data within the date specified. The user has the ability to display specific data points using the various functions.

Functions

Formula
Select any column's data and create a formula to determine calculation such as sum, difference, total, etc. For example, compare actual flight time versus estimated flight time.

Filter
The user is able to select certain records to return when using the filter function. For example, filter column "Aircraft" = N123AB and only data containing the aircraft provided will return.

Add Chart
Create a variety of charts: pie, bar, line, curved lines, scatter plot, heat map or gauge from the captured data points.

Add Crosstab
Use the crosstab function to compare more than two data points. Organize it in a table view with rows and columns. For example, view the total of all expenses per aircraft per month (1st Quarter) within a table view.

Click the gear icon to access additional functions.
Note: The functions added pertain to order of operation. For example, if you Group by tail number first, then do an aggregate (sum) of flight time, the results will be within each tail number.

Columns
Add or remove the columns you wish to show in your table. Uncheck the box to hide columns.

Sort
This function allows the user to sort the data according to column heading and select if it ascends or descends. There is no limit onto how many sorts a user is able to add. For example, sort the data by trip # in a descending manner.

Group
Organize column headings with the grouping and sub-grouping function. For example, group by month, then by aircraft. There is no limit on how many groups can be added.

Aggregate
Calculate totals, counts, standard deviations, minimums and maximums for the column headings as well as grouped levels. For example, to capture the sum of the actual flight time in decimal format, create the following aggregate.

The Act FlightDec is now totaled and a new column is added to the table.

Paging
Use the paging feature to adjust the number of rows displayed on each page to easy viewing.
