Introducing Access Roles
Avianis User Permissions Model Update
Avianis is introducing a new, centralized user permissions model called Access Roles. This feature consolidates all existing permission controls into a single, customizable interface, providing administrators with enhanced visibility and more granular control over user access. The new Access Roles system is designed to increase data security and provide a more robust framework for managing user permissions. By centralizing access controls, administrators can easily define and assign roles with specific privileges, ensuring users only have access to the information and functions necessary for their duties. This minimizes the risk of unauthorized data exposure and supports a wider range of operational workflows.
With Access Roles, administrators will be able to:
- Create a custom Access Role by choosing access options from ~100 different page and ability controls
- Grant access with options to select from; full access, no access, or in some cases 'read-only' access and yes/no options for actions
- Apply custom Access Roles to users to control exactly what they're able to see and interact with in Avianis
- Optionally, add aircraft and/or user filters to a particular user to limit their application access to only those records (for filterable areas only)
- Edit an applied Access Role to one or multiple users to instantly change access for all users at once
What's Changing?
Highly recommend to watch the webinar recording below for a complete feature walkthrough.
Previous User Permissions Removal
We are removing and replacing the old user permissions model with the new one, Access Roles. Some notable features being removed/replaced are:
- "Lock" icon button ...will now be... No Access Role assigned - User will not be able to login at all, though the may still be managed in Avianis application.
- "Restrict" setting ...will now be... an Access Role option of My Profile = Read-Only for Yes and = Full for No
- User Roles ...will now be... Access Roles
- Schedule Settings ...will now be... Aircraft Filters on users
- Aircraft Custom Roles ...will now be... Aircraft & Vendor access options on Access Roles
- QuickBooks User Role ...will now be... moved to the User > Integrations (tab)
The new user profile simply has a reference to the Access Role and filters on a widget.
Aircraft direct assignments are not considered a part of user permissions and will persist with no changes. The functional aspects of direct assignments are not changing / will continue to work the same way.

Create Custom Access Roles
Admin users may use Users > User Settings > Access Roles to manage and create new Access Roles. Access Roles have nearly 100 different permission options to select from. (Hover over an access area option for a description on what is controls.) For this release, most of the options offered are already supported under the old User Roles, with a few exceptions that include new permissions to allow/prevent:
- Task engine
- Files widget(s)
- Expense logging
- Create iCal
- Create Personnel Event
- Create Quote
- Create Trip
- Set preferred vendor / approved vendor
- User page, read-only option
- Set the Access Role for users
Avianis also provides System Default Access Roles that Avianis will maintain if it is preferred not to have to manage custom roles.

Apply Access Roles and Filters to Users
Whether using custom Access Roles or system defaults, they can be applied to users from each user page. Additionally, aircraft and/or user filters may be applied for that user to limit what they can see in the application for those areas that support filtering.
